the bells were ringing for us
we fell in love at the church
a sunset over the country hills
i was a glass of water
then the fire came and swallowed everything
I was young and knew anything
you wore a brown jumper,
we stayed up reading books
and climbed trees to watch the stars.
a thorny truck took you from me
lines came between us
and wrapped you around a tree
flowers there now
instead of you and me
and i found heaven where the sunsets
and nothing could hold me back,
i wasn’t so afraid and lonely anymore,
nothing could hurt me,
i ran towards the moon
to find something to believe in.
i got away naked
they held me down
they covered my mouth so
i couldn’t let you out
the leafs are so close
i'm wrapped around
rocks and ground
new burns come back
as old scars
